SODETE - Democratic and social participation through parental participation
How can parents, schools and local communities shape education together? What forms of cooperation with parents exist? What good structures and processes are there already, where is there potential for improvements?
SODETE is a common project of the University of Education Schwäbisch Gmünd and the city administration of Schwäbisch Gmünd. It is supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research as part of the funding line "Reducing educational barriers: Learning environments, educational success and social participation". The three-year project (project start 06/22) is divided into two phases: A research phase and a practical phase.
During the research phase, the project will analyze the conditions for successful parental participation at school and in the community. In the practical phase, they are further developed together with all stakeholders. In Germany, parental participation is an important element in making sure that children's educational biographies are successful. However, the project not only analyzes the participation of parents, for example at school festivals, it also analyzes the opportunities for parents to play an active role in shaping school and education.
The project focuses in particular on inclusive and non-discriminatory work. The purpose of the project is to contribute to the creation of non-discriminatory educational spaces and to promote cooperation between parents and schools. All parents and all school and non-school stakeholders should be given the opportunity to get involved in the school and community and therefore shape the city's civil society.
